Spring Makeup Refresh

I’ve been known to stop random women on the street who have particularly good skin to ask them about their skincare/ makeup routine. Anything for glowing skin, am I right?

Anywho, my friend Farell is no exception. I stalked her until I got a full run down of she how gets her lovely, dewy skin. Ladies, take note.

Fall Beauty with Benefit

Fall Beauty with Benefit

With a new season comes a new beauty routine (I’m pretending that it is actually Fall here in San Francisco, despite the heat). Benefit is my go-to spot for eyelash tinting and brow waxing. Each time I visit I swear I will.not.buy.anymore.products. Never happens. I left last weekend with some new goodies that are too good not to share. Here’s what’s new in my makeup bag for Fall:

  1. High Brow– an old product that I used years ago and forgot what a difference it makes to the entire eye area. I line it under my brows for a lifted look.
  2. Gimme Brow– how have I been living without this product? Complete your look with full and defined brows.
  3. Benefit Foundation Brush– the bristles are so soft and makes foundation or tinted moisturizer go on flawlessly.
  4. Benefit Big Easy– provides great coverage with a natural finish. It has a liquid-to-powder finish and takes care of your SPF needs.
  5. Benefit Dallas– hands down, my favorite new purchase. Every time I wear it someone will say that I have the “pregnancy glow”. Little do they know…

Whole Foods Beauty

Whole Body finds

Whole Foods has become an even more dangerous place for me these days. And scooping up organic finds has never been easier. I love their beauty products and have made some amazing (and affordable) discoveries over the years. When I get that look from my husband in the checkout line, I recite: remember what you put on your body is just as important as what you put in your body….;)

1. Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay. My friend recently introduced me to this and it’s the best.mask.ever (and only $7).

2. John Masters Organics lavender hydrating mist for skin and hair. I’m a huge fan of this brand and packaging.

3. Weleda Skin Food. An amazing moisturizer for those who need hydration but struggle with breakouts. A friend also recommended Weleda Stretch Mark Massage Oil for pregnancy so I’ll be trying that product out for sure.

4. Almond Aura Glow Oil. I haven’t used this product in a while but it’s great for nourishing your skin after a shower.

5. Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel. See this post.

6. Whole Foods 365 Lavender and John Masters Organics Lavender & Avocado are both great conditioners. Still working on finding a shampoo. Any recs?

7. Dr. Bronner soap. There’s a reason this soap has a cult following in the beauty world.

8. Acure facial scrub. Use a small amount because it’s not watered down. Great for your T-zone.

9. Andalou Naturals Probiotic + C Renewal Cream. An incredible product that’s great for when you’re battling super dry skin.

10. Alba sugar cane body polish. It does the trick and is affordable.

11. Avalon Organics Vitamin C Renewal is a great toner. My mother-in-law has always told me to exfoliate with Emergen-C packets and this Vitamin C concoction also works wonders.

12. Egyptian Magic Cream. When the Huffington Post named this as one of the “Best Beauty Products You’ve Probably Never Heard Of” I had to try it out. A mix of olive oil and honey, this moisturizing cream also heals scars, as well as burns and stretch marks.

13. Earth Science Clarifying Facial Wash. I purchased this after reading on Into The Gloss that it gets rid of everything (aka your hard-to-remove mascara).

Summer Makeup

Summer Makeup

Following up on Tuesday’s post about summer skin, above are my top picks for summer makeup. These products will help you achieve a natural, less is more look. For a night out, apply Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation all over your face followed by dusting Chantecaille Loose Powder along your T-zone. For day, use a tinted moisturizer followed by Chantecaille Protection Naturelle. This great mineral powder absorbs excess oil without drying out your skin. I was recently introduced to the line ‘By Terry’ and love the Touch- Expert Advanced corrective concealer for tired eyes. Makeup artists swear by Cle de Peau Beaute Concealer for blemishes and imperfections. You should definitely add RMS Living Luminizer to your makeup arsenal (Giselle swears by this highlighter); I swipe a little on my eyelids and cheekbones. For lashes, Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara and Maybelline Full ‘N Soft Mascara are two of my favorite mascaras right now. For cheeks, Nars Blush in Douceur goes on sheer without any sparkle and YSL Creme de Blush in Velvety Peach is great for a dewy look. If you’re a lipstick fan, Ilia ‘Perfect Day’ is great for brunettes and Ilia ‘Jump’ is great for fair-skinned blondes (thanks to the blue undertones). I also love Tarte LipSurgence –a hybrid between a stain and balm that will last all day.

I also just picked up this new Stanley & Sons Denim Pouch to hold all the goods! I liked the notion of having a masculine cosmetic bag:

Winter Beauty Must Haves

Winter Beauty Essentials

Like clockwork every winter, my skin gets extremely itchy and dry. Above are some products that I can’t live without this season. Every dermatologist and facialist I’ve come across stresses the importance of using antioxidants on your face. While the Phloretin CF doesn’t come cheap, it’s worth every penny. If you have extra dry skin, I recommend the SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Gel. You also can’t go wrong with the First Aid Beauty line–perfect for sensitive skin.

This description sold me on the Kora Organics Rose Hip Oil: Rich in Rosehip and Jojoba Oil, this light, fast-absorbing formula is packed with collagen-boosting antioxidants and essential fatty acids, which improve skin tone and texture. Anti-aging Pomegranate Oil, healing Vitamin E and extracts of anti-inflammatory wonder-ingredient Noni Fruit ensure soft and radiant results. The secret to supermodel skin?

I’m also loving Marc Jacobs Lip Lock Moisture Balm in ‘Makeout’: its grainy texture exfoliates your lips and the thick shea butter seals in moisture.
